”Screaming Cinderella”- that’s Maria’s nickname which has been adopted by tennis experts and fans because of her loud behavior on the court, as well as her great looks. She ignores the constant comparisons with Anna Kournikova, although she says that it is becoming quite annoying. Although Maria had a shot at being a model, she tries to keep to her own saying “ Showing off my looks on magazines’ covers is not for me. I’m going to play tennis and achieve victories on the tennis court.” Actually many of her rivals are already panicking over Maria’s constantly improving tennis skills admitting that “this Russian has a great future” Maria is a patriot. To the questions of whether or not she is planning to become an American citizen her categorical answer is : “ I’ve always felt Russian and I have only one citizenship - Russian. And what does it mean that I have spent half of my life in the USA? My tennis career has been developing very successfully over there. But I am still Russian and all my victories I dedicate to my home country”. At leisure Maria prefers to go shopping or to go to the cinema, likes to listen to Russian and foreign music, as well as read books in Russian and English.
