Sharapova at US Open 2005
|
Sharapova had a good start at US Open 2005 by overpowering Eleni Daniilidou 6-1 6-1 in just 66 minutes she was able to show everyone who is who on the court in New York City. She delighted her NY fans as well as sports commentators who praised her stellar performance on the opening day of US Open 2005. Sharapova finished that match with a very good backhand putting Eleni out of competition.
Eleni Daniilidou beat French Open champ Justine Henin-Hardenne at Wimbledon and was perceived as a good match, but she did not live up to expectations of the Greek crowed at US Open 2005. She let Sharapova to gain on a first brake point after which it was one way game.
Sharapova commented her match with the following: "I felt really good. It feels good to get back into action, I think there's always room for improvement and hopefully I'll keep improving."
